Evidentiary scope

The label places male cannabis plants on a ravine slope near Tyumen in July 1915. It gives no use and no note on cultivation. It is a duplicate label written in 1960 or later, a copy of an original label that is not on the sheet. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from the holder's image (3760 × 4945 pixels). The page states only what the readings agree.

  • Slip. Printed Ex Herb. Inst. Bot. Ac. Sc. URSS.
  • Label (printed form). ГЕРБАРИЙ БОТАНИЧЕСКОГО ИНСТИТУТА / АКАДЕМИИ НАУК СССР / Дублет / 19 … N … / Собр. Опр. / Herbarium Instituti Botanici Academiae Sc. URSS, Leningrad / printer's line 1-я ТАН. Зак. 4199—15000. 18/V-60 г.
  • By hand. Cannabis sativa L. / По склону лога за Малым Царевым / Городищем у г. Тюмени. / 15 VII 4 (after the printed 19) / 144 / fl. ♂ / the signature.
  • Stamp. Herbarium Universitatis Mosquensis (MW) at the top of the sheet.
  • Readings that differ. The date: the first reading gives 4 July 1915; the second could not choose between that and 15 July 1914. A third look finds 15 written directly after the printed 19 on the year's rule, then VII raised and then 4: 4 July 1915, the catalogue's date. The surname was read Мамеев and Малеев (or Мамеев); the collector field takes the catalogue's S. Mameev.
  • A pencilled 1973 in the lower right corner, in the hand seen on nearly every sheet of this series in the Moscow depository, says nothing about its purpose and is not used.

Georeferencing

The point 57.153445, 65.525293 is the one the herbarium's database publishes for this sheet, with an uncertainty of 500 m. It lies in Tyumen, at the mouth of the ravine named Городищенский лог after the old fortified site beside it (OpenStreetMap way 88564363, 0.2 km from its nearest edge), and 0.6 km from the site of Chingi-Tura, which the Russian Wikipedia calls the archaeological monument Царёво (малое) городище; the ravine is the one feature that a ravine beyond the Maly Tsarev Gorodishche can sensibly mean, and the point agrees with it. The Russian Wikipedia also warns that the names of the greater and lesser gorodishche of Tyumen are often confused in the literature; the sites lie close together in one district of the city, and the uncertainty here is widened to 1 km to cover that. SRTM gives 80 m; the label gives no altitude. Basis: holder's georeference. Uncertainty: about 1 km.

Editorial treatment

A later label. The printer's line 18/V-60 г. dates the form to 18 May 1960. The collector's own label is not on the sheet; what is on it was copied onto the Leningrad herbarium's form, and the page reports it as such.

Collector. The collector and determiner fields take the catalogue's S. Mameev. No source read for this page gives his full name, which is not linked.
