Discussion

Sources

  • Gautier (1846), Revue des Deux Mondes 13, pp. 520–535, cited from the Wikisource transcription of the volume (index Revue des Deux Mondes - 1846 - tome 13.djvu, pages 524–539 of the scan). The chapter titles are quoted as printed there.
  • Gautier (1868), notice "Charles Baudelaire", pp. 58–59: his later identification of the paste as dawamesk and the number of trials.
  • The 1846 article does not name the doctor who served the paste. France names Jacques-Joseph Moreau as Gautier's supplier on the strength of Moreau (1845); that link is not repeated here.
  • The article dates the club to Paris in 1845 and the evening to December, without a day.

Framing

  • The article frames the evening through the Old Man of the Mountain story and calls it an "excès d'orientalisme". Both are Gautier's; the page quotes or attributes them. The history of the assassin derivation is on Hashish.

Infobox

  • Has source type is "Magazine article", as on A Hashish-House in New York (Kane 1883).
  • No holding institution is given: the page links the Wikisource transcription.
