Page scope
Lake Toba sets the lake's reputation in cannabis culture against the documentary evidence. Its sections cover the highlands and their crops; the evidence from Karo, on the caldera's northern rim; the absence of cannabis from the sources on the Toba Batak heartland; travellers' accounts; cultivation and enforcement today.

  • File:Lake-Toba-caldera-highlands.jpg (lead): a freely licensed landscape photograph of the Toba caldera showing the highland rim and the slopes of Samosir, with terraced or cultivated hillside in view; a resort shoreline would not serve. The Wikimedia Commons categories "Lake Toba" and "Samosir" have candidates.

Seed-line statements in the article

Two statements carry a citation-needed tag (12 October 2026): that the seed lines circulating under Sumatran names trace to Aceh, in the lead, and that the one documented case of Toba-associated breeding material traces its seed to Aceh while commercial "Sumatran" seed lines are branded to Aceh, in the section on the highlands' crops.

The reference attached to the surrounding sentence is a 2 February 2020 Jakarta Post report. It covers calls in Aceh to legalise cannabis cultivation, including remarks by a university professor at a recent discussion there, and it cites a 2016 Transnational Institute briefing for Aceh being the main source of the country's cannabis and for small plantations in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra. That supports the clause on the national trade. It does not mention seed lines, strains or breeding material, so it does not support these two statements. The statements stay in place, tagged, until a source documents the seed lineage.
