Identifier
The accession identifier is KHA-PHL-UNK-0120210001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Holder segment
KHAstands for Khalifa Genetics. - Year 2021 is the earliest year the listing is attested (Wayback Machine and Common Crawl capture of Khalifa Genetics' own page, 21 October 2021). No source gives a collection year, so, as for other vendor accessions without one, the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and moves if an earlier capture or catalogue is found.
- Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
- Province segment
UNK. The page says only "the mountains of northern Philippines". The name Filipino Kibungan is that of a municipality of Benguet, but a line's name is not a statement of where its seed came from, so no province is entered and the province segment isUNK.
Sourcing
The source is Khalifa Genetics' own product page, read live on 8 October 2026 (marked out of stock) and in the Wayback Machine's capture of 21 October 2021, which carries the same sourcing sentence. The listing of the retailer Mr. Hanf (MRH N-Trade GmbH), read live on 3 and 8 October 2026, reproduces the company's description and is cited only for its item number, the seed type and the harvest month.
Every statement about the line is Khalifa Genetics's own account of its stock and is attributed to it. No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named in the listing, and no independent source for the line's origin was found.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace. The company writes that "a local Filipino grower offered us these heirloom seeds for their reproduction and preservation", and says that local farmers in the mountains of the north grow small patches in secluded places. That places the source of the seed with a local grower. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the company's account, which names no grower, place or date. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
- Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The listing gives no chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale.
- Accession type is left empty: the listing does not say whether the seed on sale is the original collection or a reproduction of it.
- Traits. Flowering times, heights and aromas in the infobox are the vendor's figures.
Grower or breeder
Khalifa Genetics' own page, in 2021 and now, says that "a local Filipino grower offered us these heirloom seeds for their reproduction and preservation". The Mr. Hanf copy of the same text reads "A local Filipino breeder offered us these heirloom seeds for reproduction and preservation". The article quotes the company's own page.
Relation to TLT's Kibungan
The Landrace Team sells a line it calls Kibungan. The two vendors' listings do not connect their lines, so they are separate accessions with no relationship entered.
Accession type
Khalifa Genetics says the seed was offered to it "for their reproduction and preservation", which suggests that what it sells is its own reproduction. The page does not say so outright, so the accession type is left empty.
Seller text not used
The page's sentence on Philippine law (that cultivation is "punishable by life imprisonment") is a legal claim in seller copy and is not used here. The generic text on the Mr. Hanf product-feature panel (for example "Long flowering time of 12-16 weeks", which describes the category Landrace Sativa) is not specific to this line and is not used either.
ACE Seeds' listing
ACE Seeds' Spanish listing (https://www.aceseeds.org/semillas/filipino-kibungan-semillas-regulares/), read live on 12 October 2026, calls the seed "Sativa pura P2 de segunda generación procedente de Kibungan, Filipinas, reproducida en polinización abierta para aumentar su estabilidad sexual": a second-generation pure sativa from Kibungan, reproduced by open pollination. Its English listing gives the P2 label without the place. This is the stockist's statement; Khalifa Genetics' own page still names no place. The article reports it as ACE's.
- The identifier and the province field are unchanged: the company's own listing names no province, and the place ACE names is carried by the point below.
- The accession type stays empty. ACE's P2 says the seed is one generation after the seed the grower gave, but that seed is not documented as an accession.
Georeferencing
ACE names Kibungan, which is both a municipality of Benguet and the town at its centre, and does not say which. OpenStreetMap has no boundary for the municipality (searched as "Kibungan", "Municipality of Kibungan", "Kibungan, Philippines" and "Kibungan, Benguet"); it has the town, node 198518447 (place=town). The point 16.69, 120.65 is that node, taken as the point for the municipality. Wikidata (Q30349) gives the municipality an area of 254.86 km² and places it at the same town. A circle of that area has a radius of about 9 km; the town need not lie at the municipality's middle, so the uncertainty is set wider. It is an area point for the municipality, not the place the seed was gathered. An earlier version of this note gave no point because a point inferred from a named area would describe the area rather than the population. The company's own page names no place below "the mountains of northern Philippines"; the point rests on ACE's statement. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 15 km.
Conservation priority
Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of the source population.
