Why the area is on the map
- Wang, Dong and Mu (2022) list Cannabis sativa as an invasive member of the province's wild vascular flora, with a voucher specimen (Cao Wei, CaoW5933, held at the Institute of Applied Ecology in Shenyang). The dataset gives the status for the whole province and names no county, so the area is drawn on the province.
- Hemp from Anda was sent to the United States Department of Agriculture from the crop of 1921–22.
- Industrial hemp grown under the province's rules is described on the page. It is not what puts the area on the map.
Growing status
The status is Active: the checklist of 2022 records cannabis growing wild in the province, and industrial hemp was grown in 2020 and is planned for 2026. No source says that growing in the area has ended.
Two sources side by side
Zhang et al. (2018) sampled wild populations in Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia in 2011–2016, and their two Heilongjiang samples were landraces. Wang, Dong and Mu (2022) list cannabis as invasive in Heilongjiang's wild flora. The two do not conflict: the 2018 study reports what it sampled at its own sites, and the 2022 checklist reports the province as a whole. The page words the wild record as the checklist does, for the province, with no county.
How the border is drawn
- The border is the province: OpenStreetMap relation 199073, about 472,000 km², the figure in the infobox.
- The infobox point (47.98, 127.64) is the centre of the shape.
- The border is not drawn from accession or news points.
Accessions
Two herbarium sheets were gathered inside the border: Kung 2091 (Jingpo Lake, 1931; the label says Kirin, the province of the time) and Anon. s.n., Harbin (1924), three seedlings on ploughland near the experimental field of the Chinese Eastern Railway. They are not attached to the area. One of the three Pokrovsky 56 sheets is held at the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum in Harbin, but it was gathered near Hailar in Hulunbuir, outside the area.
Sources
- Wang, Dong and Mu (2022): the abstract and the supplementary dataset (an Excel file) were read; the cannabis row is entry 1914.
- Zhang et al. (2018): Table 1 was read for the Heilongjiang rows.
- Hanson (1922): in the Bureau of Plant Industry inventory no. 72, p. 36, S.P.I. 55797.
- Heilongjiang agriculture department: the 2021 plan gives the 2020 area, the 2025 target and the planned bases by county; the 2026 guidance gives the registration rule and the main districts. The plan's description of the province as the largest supplier of hemp fibre is the department's own and is given on the page as such.
Not used
- Two iNaturalist observations at Daqing (2024 and 2025) are observer records with no habitat; they are not cited.
- No police report of wild stands in Heilongjiang was found.
