Evidentiary scope

The label records a small, flowering cannabis plant on a roadside at Tintibi Bridge in March 1982. The roadside habitat directly documents a ruderal occurrence and supports the Feral classification; it does not say whether the plant descended from cultivation nearby. The label names no use, variety or local name. The sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. No conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read from the Edinburgh image (E00137591, 2823 × 4096 pixels).

  • Typed label FLORA OF BHUTAN / Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa / Tongsa district: Tintibi Bridge, Mangde Chu. / 27°11' 90°40' / On roadside. / Small herb 55 cm, dioecious, flowers green. / Alt. c. 540 m / 31 Mar 1982 / Coll. A.J.C. Grierson & D.G. Long / No. 4168.
  • Pencil 153.4 above the label: a filing figure.

Georeferencing

The coordinate is the label's own, 27°11′ N, 90°40′ E, stored as 27.18, 90.67. A minute of latitude is about 1.85 kilometres, so the point locates the bridge to within a kilometre or so. Its SRTM 30-metre elevation is 994 metres against the label's 540; in a steep valley a point rounded to the minute can sit on the slope above the river, and the label's altitude is taken as the better guide to the bridge. OpenStreetMap places the point in Trong Gewog, Zhemgang District.

Editorial treatment

The province field takes Zhemgang District, the present-day dzongkhag the label's coordinates fall in; the label's Tongsa district is quoted in the article. The scientific name field takes the label's determination, Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa. The collector field takes A.J.C. Grierson; the collector number reads Grierson, A.J.C. & Long, D.G. 4168. The California Academy of Sciences duplicate (CAS 1781013) is another sheet of the same gathering and is named in the article, not made a separate accession.

Source discrepancies

  • District. Label: Tongsa district. Present-day dzongkhag of the label's coordinates: Zhemgang.
  • Name. Label: Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa. Catalogue and GBIF: Cannabis sativa L.
