Evidentiary scope

The label reads leg. J. Gillet 1901 and Collect. J. Gillet n. 2027. It carries no place of collection, and the catalogue records the locality as s.l. (without a place). The sheet fixes a cannabis plant in the Congo in 1901 and nothing further: no month, no habitat, no elevation, no local name and no use. Nothing shows whether the plant was cultivated, grew wild or had escaped. The accession is classified Unknown. It shows no continuing population and no living germplasm holding, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

Gillet was based at the mission at Kisantu in the lower Congo and collected widely from there, but nothing on this sheet ties it to a particular locality, so no place is asserted.
