Evidentiary scope

This is the weakest of the Congolese records held here. It fixes a cannabis plant in the Congo in 1901 and nothing further: no locality, no month, no habitat, no elevation, no local name and no use. It is retained because it is the earliest of the group and because the collector and number are unambiguous, not because it supports any claim about where or how cannabis was grown. It records no continuing population and no living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. No conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

Gillet was based at the mission at Kisantu in the lower Congo and collected widely from there, but nothing on this sheet ties it to a particular locality, so no place is asserted.
