Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label records cultivation and a purpose: the plants were Cultivated by Mêo people for weaving. It gives a local name, Pān. It records no variety name and no seed. The sheet shows neither a continuing population nor a living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. The accession is classified Other. No conservation priority is assigned.
Georeferencing
The label names the same places as Garrett 851, Doi Langka (ดอยลังกา) and Mê Soi (แม่สอย), at about 1,100 metres by aneroid. The infobox uses the same point, the hamlet of Ban Doi Lanka (OpenStreetMap node/9869356332) at 18.97, 99.42, which stands at 1,039 m on SRTM. The stream Nam Mae Soi (way/1076726762) runs beside it. The point places the gathering to within about 5 km. Both features lie in Mueang Pan District, Lampang Province.
Entered under Tier A of the coordinate ruling of 18 September 2026.
Editorial treatment
The collector field uses the label form H. B. G. Garrett. The elevation field stores the label's aneroid figure of 1,100 m.
The Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle holds a Garrett sheet of 2 December 1933, catalogue P06884295, with no locality and no number in its catalogue (GBIF occurrence 731719491). Its image could not be retrieved, so whether it belongs to this gathering or to Garrett 851 is not settled.
The infobox image is the Forest Herbarium's own scan of SN 009248, which the herbarium publishes with all rights reserved. It is used under fair use, with the rationale on its file page (ruling of 18 September 2026). No duplicate of this number with an open licence has been found.
Source discrepancies
- The Forest Herbarium catalogue gives the habitat as Cultivated by Mêo people for wearing. The label reads weaving. The article follows the label.
- The catalogue gives the major area as Chiang Rai. The label names no province. The places it names lie in Lampang Province, which the province field follows.
