Evidentiary scope

The label records the plants as Cultivated by Mêo people for weaving, on Doi Langka at about 1,100 metres, on 2 December 1933. The Mêo are the people now called Hmong. The label gives the local name Pān (ป่าน, a name for fibre hemp). It records no variety name and no seed. Drug-type cannabis from different regions began to be cross-bred, and its seed carried into old growing areas, in the 1970s (McPartland and Small 2020, pp. 84–85), so a hybrid origin is not considered for a sheet gathered in 1933. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the label. The sheet does not show what became of the crop or whether its seed survives, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

The label names Doi Langkā (ดอยลังกา) and Mê Soi (แม่สอย) at about 1,100 metres by aneroid. On the southern slopes of Doi Lanka Luang, OpenStreetMap maps a stream, Nam Mae Soi (น้ำแม่สอย, way/1076726762), beside a hamlet, Ban Doi Lanka (บ้านดอยลังกา, node/9869356332). A search of the mountain's surroundings found no other Mae Soi. The hamlet stands at 1,039 m on SRTM against the label's c. 1,100 m. The infobox georeferences the hamlet at 18.97, 99.42 as a locality point, not a reconstructed collection point; it places the gathering to within about 5 km. Both features lie in Mueang Pan District, Lampang Province. The province and district fields follow them.

Editorial treatment

The collector field uses the label form H. B. G. Garrett. The elevation field stores the label's aneroid figure of 1,100 m.

The Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle holds a Garrett sheet of 2 December 1933, catalogue P06884295 (GBIF occurrence 731719491). Its Kew label, read from the museum's scan at full resolution (3268 × 5010 pixels), reads EX HERB. HORT. BOT. REG. KEW., Siam, 851, Cannabis sativa Linn., 2.12.33 and H. B. Garrett. The museum's slip reads Reçu le 1-3-1939. The number places it in this gathering, not in Garrett 852. Like the Leiden sheet, it came from Kew.

The infobox shows the Leiden duplicate, which Naturalis publishes under CC0, in preference to a fair-use copy of the Forest Herbarium's scan. The Sheets section shows it with the Paris duplicate, which the museum publishes under CC BY 4.0, and the Edinburgh duplicate, which the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh publishes under CC BY-SA 2.5.

Source discrepancies

The Forest Herbarium catalogue gives the habitat as Cultivated by Mêo people for wearing. The label reads weaving. The article follows the label.
The catalogue gives the major area as Chiang Rai. The label names no province. The places it names lie in Lampang Province, which the province field follows.

The catalogue records no collector, number, date or country and files the sheet under the herbarium region 6B (Indo-China); the number on the label places it in this gathering.
