Identifier

The accession identifier is EAG-TZA-KIL-0120200002, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment EAG stands for East Africa Genes.
  • Year 2020 is the year of the first dated document that lists the line: the catalogue capture of 7 August 2020. No source gives a collection year, so the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and the collection date field is empty.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
  • Province segment. The seller names Mount Kilimanjaro, which lies in Kilimanjaro Region, so the province field is Kilimanjaro Region and the segment is KIL.
  • Sequence 0002. Second of the two Kilimanjaro Region lines in the order of the August 2020 capture, which lists Moshi first.

Sourcing

The catalogue page Pure African Strains (https://eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/) was read as it stood on 8 October 2026 and in twelve archived captures from 7 August 2020 to 4 June 2023 (https://web.archive.org/web/*/eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/). No capture between June 2023 and the current page could be read. The seller's Overgrow posts of 10 September 2023 (https://overgrow.com/t/east-africa-genes-the-authentic-supplier-of-landrace-strains-from-east-african-countries/122685/1) and 19 November 2024 (https://overgrow.com/t/indoor-grown-kilimanjaro-sativa/170748/1) were read from saved copies, and the blog post of 7 January 2026 from the seller's site.

No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace. The seller wrote in 2024 that the seed originates from villages at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and its post of 2026 says that the line is grown in rural villages on the mountain's slopes. That places the source of the seed with village growers. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the seller's account, which names no village, grower or date. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a seller's account does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. No source gives a chain of custody from a growing population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty: the sources do not say whether the seed on sale was gathered from growers or reproduced from earlier seed.
  • Traits. The flavours and effects in the article are the seller's words. The catalogue's "Vegetation & Flowering" figure counts vegetative growth and flowering together, so it is reported in the article and not entered as a flowering time.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The seller names no village, only villages at the foot or on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, which do not single out one place. The mountain lies in Kilimanjaro Region (OpenStreetMap relation 1243795, about 13,260 km²), the finest unit the sources support. A point for the mountain itself would mark its summit (Uhuru Peak, node 32059197, 5,895 m), not the villages where the seller says the line is grown.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The sources give nothing about the size or status of the source population.
