Evidentiary scope

The catalogue gives a collector, a number, a date and a locality. It is a single gathering and shows neither a continuing population nor a living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. The accession is classified Other. No conservation priority is assigned.

The Botanical Database of Southern Africa publishes no image of this sheet. Its image count is zero, and so is the image count of all 1,361,966 rows in the database: the store is empty, and SANBI's own site still lists plant images among its plans. The accession carries no image until the herbarium supplies a scan.

Georeferencing

The coordinate is coarser than a quarter-degree square: BODATSA records its accuracy as 1dg. The point is carried on the ruling of 23 September 2026, but it locates the gathering within a region, not a site.

BODATSA stores the quarter-degree code 3326CB against the entry while flagging the coordinate itself as one-degree, so the two fields disagree about how well the gathering is placed.

Editorial treatment

Estelle Brink curated the Selmar Schonland Herbarium at Grahamstown from 1968 to 1992 and collected this plant in her own town, so that herbarium very probably holds a sheet as well. It has no public catalogue and could not be checked.

Source discrepancies

The Smithsonian's catalogue gives the collector's number as 3326 and the province as Western Cape. Both are wrong, and the cause is visible on the Naturalis label: 3326 is the grid reference and the province box reads E CAPE. The accession carries 680 and the Eastern Cape, and records the Smithsonian's reading here.

Pretoria records the coordinate's accuracy as one degree while storing a quarter-degree code for the same entry.
