Kew's catalogue names cannabis for this object in its plant name, 153.04 CANNABACEAE Cannabis sp, and files it under the use MATERIALS - Fibres. Kew's help page says the collection classifies its specimens by plant family and genus; this one is classified under Cannabis. The word hemp does not appear in the entry. The bag is an object made from cannabis, and the plant name carries no hedge, so the attribution is Stated. The infobox quotes the plant name, the only wording in the entry that names the plant.
Evidentiary scope
The entry documents a cord bag bought from a Sani woman in a village near the Stone Forest, east of Kunming, in August 1998. It does not say who made the bag or when, or where its fibre was grown, and it records no name for the bag in a local language. The bag documents an object made from cannabis in East Yunnan by 1998; it documents no plant, population or living holding, and landrace, feral and conservation fields do not apply to an artefact.
Editorial treatment
The collection date is not the date of making. Kew's collection date, August 1998, is when the collector obtained the bag: its help page defines the collector as the person who first obtained a specimen. The date made is left empty. The date acquired is 1998, from the entry book number 20.1998.2.
No culture is entered. Kew's catalogue has no culture field. Its note names the seller's people, not the maker's, so the culture field is empty and the article attributes the bag to no people.
Place as recorded. The field quotes the note's place, East Yunnan (village near the Stone Forest east of Kunming), which is more exact than the geography line. The geography line mixes Yunnan and the place east of Kunming with the database's region names (Asia-Temperate, China South-central).
Wording. Tribe is the catalogue's word and appears on the page only in quotation.
Field collector. The field gives C. Leon, Kew's Leon C in initials form. The acquired-from field is empty, because Kew's donor fields are blank.
Image. Kew publishes four photographs of the bag through GBIF under CC BY 4.0. The full view of the bag is used.
