Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label records a cannabis plant, with its Japanese name, in September 1907, in the herbarium of a Yokohama nursery. It gives no place, no habitat, no use and no collector. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from GBIF's cached copy of Edinburgh's image (814 × 1200 pixels; the garden's own image server did not answer).
- Label (printed form, hand entries). HERB. THE YOKOHAMA NURSERY CO., LTD. / YOKOHAMA, JAPAN. / No. (blank) / Cannabis sativa L. / Japanese name: Asa / Locality: (blank) / Date: Sept. 1907.
- A single pencilled letter in the top right corner, read V once and N once, is not used.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The label's locality line is blank, and Yokohama on its printed heading is the nursery's address, not the place the plant was gathered.
Editorial treatment
Two gatherings. This sheet and Anon. s.n., Tokyo (1908) carry the same printed form but differ in year, month and locality, so each is its own accession.
Title. The label gives no collector, no number and no place, so the title takes the Anon. s.n. form with the year alone.
Image. The page carries no image: the label was read from GBIF's cached copy of the garden's image, which is too small to upload.
Source discrepancies
- GBIF's record for the sheet carries no collector, date or country; the garden's catalogue gives only the name and Japan. The date and the Japanese name are from the label.
