Evidentiary scope
A male plant on disturbed soil in a Cape Town municipal park, gathered by the professor of botany whose herbarium holds it. The catalogue gives a collector, a number, a date and a locality. It is a single gathering and shows neither a continuing population nor a living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. The accession is classified Other. No conservation priority is assigned.
Georeferencing
The portal gives no coordinate for this sheet and none is asserted. Keurboom Park is in Rondebosch, on the Cape Flats side of the Cape Peninsula.
Editorial treatment
The Bolus Herbarium is invisible to every route that normally finds a sheet. It publishes 1,270 records to GBIF, almost all of them scraps from other people's datasets, against a collection Index Herbariorum puts at 373,000. Index Herbariorum names no database for it, and the University of Cape Town's own page still says the data are not accessible through internet. The portal at bolus-herbarium.africa was found by following a footer link, and it holds 263,769 records with 22 per cent of them imaged. This sheet is in none of GBIF, BODATSA or Index Herbariorum.
The label writes the year as 940 for 1940 and the date as Ap. 7, which the portal reads as 7 April. The two agree.
Cannabaceae is not on the herbarium's list of fully databased families and roughly a third of the collection is not online, so a second Cape sheet in the cupboards is possible.
