Discussion
Identifier
The accession identifier is ATA-SWZ-UNK-0120090001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Holder segment
ATAstands for ATAO Genetics. - Country, province, month and year are those of the parent, AFP-SWZ-UNK-0120090001, whose Talk page explains them; the year is the parent's earliest listing, 2009, not ATAO's preservation of 2011.
- No
-R1suffix. The holder codes of parent and reproduction already differ.
Sourcing
ATAO's Overgrow thread "Swazi Red (Afropips)" (https://overgrow.com/t/swazi-red-afropips/102661/1, opened 12 February 2023, read in full on 12 October 2026), its post of 25 July 2025 in the thread "Atao Genetics", and its Hemp Depot listing (http://hempdepot.ca/seeds/Atao/index.html, read on 8 and 12 October 2026; the version archived on 30 May 2023 is the earliest with this line). Every statement about the plants is ATAO's own account and is attributed to it.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace IBL. The parent, Afropips' Swazi Red, is classified Landrace on the business's account of a breeder in the Nkomati region. ATAO's listing calls its seed "A rooibaard preservation P6 of Afropip's Swazi Red since 2011 from multiple parents", and ATAO says that most of the line now descends from a few mother plants chosen in the second generation. The accession is classified Landrace IBL, a line kept and selected over six generations from that landrace, by inference from ATAO's account. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a seller's account does not establish the class of the source population.
- Accession type: Reproduction, sourcing type: Multi-generation reproduction. ATAO counts six generations since 2011.
- Parent accession: AFP-SWZ-UNK-0120090001. ATAO names Afropips as the source of the line in its thread and in its listing. Where and from whom it obtained the seed it does not say.
- Collection date is empty, as on the parent.
- Cultivation status: Active. The P6 was harvested from July 2025 and a P7 is planned for 2027.
- Flowering time is the listing's 12 to 16 weeks. ATAO's own figures for the two plant types, 12 to 14 and 14 to 16 weeks, are in the article.
South Africa or Eswatini
ATAO's listing calls the line "This old South African blue green line"; Afropips' own description places its breeder "in nkomati region of swaziland". The country follows the parent. Neither source says more.
Generation labels
ATAO's list of March 2023 reads "Swazi Red (Afropips) F5"; the Hemp Depot listing read "F5" in 2023 and "P6" in 2026. The counts are ATAO's and are attributed to it.
Photographs
The three photographs are from ATAO's Hemp Depot listing for this line (http://hempdepot.ca/seeds/Atao/images/, fetched 12 October 2026), which shows nine, each with a watermark naming the line and ATAO Genetics. None of them appears on ATAO's listings of other lines.
Georeferencing
No point is given. This page records a line grown for several generations away from its source; the population's place belongs on the parent, AFP-SWZ-UNK-0120090001, whose own note explains why it has none.
People
ATAO credits part of its F5 to another grower's F3. The article does not name the grower.
