Cannabis in South Tapanuli

On 11 November 2025 Polres Tapanuli Selatan arrested a 45-year-old farmer after finding 29 cannabis plants growing among the oil palms of a smallholding at Desa Sihuik-huik, Angkola Selatan district. Wahana News reported that the man said he had obtained seed from an acquaintance, had grown cannabis since early 2025 and had sold part of an earlier harvest locally; the charge carries a statutory maximum of 20 years under the 2009 Narcotics Law.[1]

In April 2026 a Polres Tapanuli Selatan operation at Angkola Muara Tais district stopped two couriers moving 3 kg of cannabis by motorcycle taxi from Panyabungan in Mandailing Natal.[2]
