Sitovskiy s.n. is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered in ravines behind a garden on 22 August 1871. The label names no collector, town or country: the Moscow University Herbarium, which holds the sheet as MW0661550, files it under Georgia and attributes it to Sitovskiy.[1]
Collection and locality
The label is a small slip written in ink in the spelling of before 1918: Cannabis sativa., the date 22/VIII 71. and Овраги, за садомъ (ravines, behind the garden), followed by the garden's name, which is not clearly legible.[2] The catalogue gives the date as 22 August 1871, transcribes the place as Овраги, за садом Муштаида (ravines, behind the Mushtaid garden), files the sheet under Georgia and names the collector in square brackets as [Sitovskiy], an attribution of the herbarium's that the label does not carry.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries two slender flowering stems, and an empty paper capsule at the top left.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa without an author or a determiner; the catalogue files it as Cannabis sativa L. and gives the collector as the determiner.[2][1]
