Siebold s.n. is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa from Japan, labelled with the name of Philipp Franz von Siebold and undated. The Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden holds the sheet as L 0420303 and records it as the lectotype of Cannabis sativa var. angustifolia.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The printed label of the Leiden herbarium, Herb. Lugd. Batav., is completed in ink Cannabis Sativa L and v. angustifolia, with the name Siebold at the lower right and the printed place Japonia (Japan). It gives no date, no number and no place within Japan.[3] The catalogue gives Siebold as the collector and Japan as the place, with no date.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries three leafy stems with palmate leaves of long, narrow leaflets, one of them ending in a loose flowering top.[3] A red printed type slip at the lower left offers Holo-, Lecto-, Iso- and Syn- before TYPE, with Lecto circled in ink, and names the plant Cannabis sativa L. var. angustifolia Miq.[3] Naturalis records the sheet as the lectotype of Cannabis sativa L. var. angustifolia;[2] GBIF files it under Cannabis sativa L. with the type status lectotype.[1] Neither the slip nor the catalogues name who chose the sheet as the lectotype, or when.
