Shangluo (商洛) is a hemp growing area of south-eastern Shaanxi, China, drawn on the city of Shangluo, in the Qinling mountains. A herbarium specimen of hemp was collected from cultivation in Shang County (Shang Hsien), now Shangzhou District, in September 1933,[1] and seed of a hemp landrace, CZ30, was collected at Shangnan in 2020.[2]: Table S1
Cultivated hemp in 1933
On 19 September 1933 a collector named on the labels as T. P. Wang took a specimen of hemp from cultivation in Shang County, then in Shensi. The sheet now at the Northwestern Institute of Botany in Yangling carries the Flora of China form of the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Peiping, whose locality line reads "Shang Hsien, Shensi (cult.)". The specimen is a large leafy top with a dense female inflorescence, determined as Cannabis sativa by W. Y. Hsia.[1] A duplicate of Wang 846 (1933) is held at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.[3]
Landrace
Jun Li and colleagues collected the achenes of twenty hemp landraces in nine provinces of China in 2020 for a study of their chemistry, and stored the seed in the National Gene Bank of Traditional Chinese Medicine, at the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica.[2] Their landrace CZ30 comes from Shangnan, in Shangluo. Its achenes are small and dark, at 24.3 g per thousand.[2]: Table S1
