Sato 8107 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Lüshun (旅順, Port Arthur), in the Kwantung Leased Territory (関東州), now part of Dalian, Liaoning, China, on 9 July 1936 by J. Sato. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds the sheet as PE 00557875[1].
Collection and locality
The label is the printed slip of a private herbarium, Herbarium Junpei Sato., completed by hand. It gives the number 8107, the name Cannabis sativa Linnaeus, the Japanese name アサ (asa, hemp) with 雄株 (male plant), the locality 関東州 旅順 (Kwantung, Lüshun), the date July. 9. 1936 and the collector J. Sato.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Liaoning.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a tall male plant with palmate leaves of five to seven narrow, serrate leaflets and sparse flowers. The label names it Cannabis sativa Linnaeus.[2] The collector's slip numbered 8108, for a female plant (雌株) from the same place on the same day, is on a sheet in Shenyang: Sato 8108 (1936). Five years later the same collector gathered a cultivated plant in Liaoyang County: Sato 8593 (1941).
