Rautanen s.n., Ondonga is a herbarium accession of cultivated Cannabis sativa gathered by M. Rautanen in Ondonga, in Ovamboland, in what is now northern Namibia, in December 1889. Its label gives the local name Epangua and records that the plant Wird gezogen, wächst nicht wild (is grown, does not grow wild). The Herbarium of the University of Zurich holds the sheet as Z-000164599.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The handwritten label reads Kraut. (herb), Epangua., (Wird gezogen, wächst nicht wild.), Ondonga. Ambaland, S.W. Afrika, Cannabis sativa L., Dec. 1889. and M. Rautanen. It is stamped Sublimatisirt (treated with sublimate, a preservative). Stamps of the botanical garden and museum of the University of Zurich record that the sheet was entered in the herbarium on 1 November 1907.[2] The catalogue gives the collector as Martti Rautanen, the place Amboland and the country Namibia, with no date.[1]
