Poshina is a landrace cannabis growing area in Poshina taluka, in the north of Sabarkantha District, Gujarat, India. In May and October 2026 police reported cannabis growing on farmland in four villages of the taluka, in three of them hidden among a cotton crop.[1][2]

Geography

According to the district administration, Sabarkantha lies in the north-east of Gujarat, bordered by Rajasthan to the north-east, and the rows of the Aravalli hills cover the north-eastern part of the district. Poshina is one of its eight talukas, and one of three, with Khedbrahma and Vijaynagar, that the administration describes as mainly tribal, hilly and forested.[3] ETV Bharat described Kotda Gadhi, where cannabis was found in October 2026, as a village near the Gujarat–Rajasthan border, in remote and hilly terrain.[4]

Cultivation

On 17 May 2026 a team of the state's Anti-Narcotics Task Force searched farmland and a house at Vinchi village, in the Wadi area of the taluka. IANS reported that it recovered about 8 kg of green cannabis plants from the cultivated land and 4.7 kg of dry cannabis from the house.[2]

At the start of October 2026 the Local Crime Branch of the Sabarkantha police, acting on a tip-off, found cannabis grown under cover of a cotton crop in the Magra Phala area of Kotda Gadhi village and seized 967 plants.[5][4] Two days later the district's Special Operations Group, on patrol in the border villages, found cannabis growing among cotton on a farm in Jalera Faliya of Anjani village and seized 666 plants. In a separate case the Poshina police seized 322 plants grown among cotton on farmland in the Ro-Padola Faliya area of Kalikankar village.[6][1] Cases were registered in each instance under the NDPS Act.[1][5][2]
