Pishin is a landrace cannabis growing area in Pishin District, in north-western Balochistan, Pakistan. In November and December 2025 the district administration, the provincial excise department, the Frontier Corps, the police and the Anti-Narcotics Force destroyed crops of bhang (cannabis) in the outskirts of Pishin, at Kali Manzarai in Huramzai tehsil and at Kali Malikyar, where more than 35 acres were destroyed.[1][2][3]
Crop destruction in 2025
In November 2025 the excise and anti-narcotics department, with the district administration, acted against illegal bhang cultivation in the outskirts of Pishin and destroyed several fields.[1] On the orders of the deputy commissioner, Mansoor Ahmed Qazi, a force of the Frontier Corps, the police, the excise department and the Anti-Narcotics Force led by the assistant commissioner of Huramzai tehsil, Muhammad Ramzan Kurd, destroyed a ready crop of bhang worth crores of rupees at Kali Manzarai. The deputy commissioner said that, under the provincial government's instructions, the names of those involved in illegal cultivation would be entered in the Fourth Schedule and the cultivated land confiscated.[2]
In early December an operation led by the assistant commissioner of Barshore tehsil, Naveed Ahmed Baloch, on the deputy commissioner's orders, destroyed more than 35 acres of illegal bhang at Kali Malikyar. The Frontier Corps and the excise department took part. Thirty people were entered in the Fourth Schedule.[3]
Earlier reports
In 1894 the extra assistant commissioner at Pishin, Kazi Imamuddin, told the Indian Hemp Drugs Commission that the hemp plant did not grow wild in his sub-division; to the question on its cultivation he answered "Not in this sub-division."[4] The hospital assistant at Pishin, Waryam Singh, said the drugs were not natural products of the area but were imported from other provinces.[5] The district gazetteer of Quetta-Pishin, published in 1907, records that the local cultivation of the hemp plant "existed, to a very small extent, in one or two villages, but it was stopped in 1896". The district's ganja and bhang then came mostly from Sind and its charas from the Punjab, with some bhang and charas from Kalat and Afghanistan.[6]: 265
