Northern Antioquia is a cannabis growing area in the north of the department of Antioquia, in north-western Colombia, at the northern end of the Central Cordillera. It is made up of four adjoining municipalities in which marijuana was eradicated between 2007 and 2017: Valdivia, Anorí, Yarumal and Campamento.[1] The area belongs to the Cordillera Central (Colombia) growing region.
Early reports
In his survey of the plants introduced into equinoctial America, published in 1969, Víctor Manuel Patiño wrote that since 1945 the Colombian press had reported from time to time the discovery of small clandestine plots of marijuana, especially on the Atlantic coast, in the north of Antioquia and in the Valle del Cauca.[2]: 405
Eradication figures
About 26 hectares of marijuana were eradicated in the four municipalities between February 2007 and December 2017, in nine entries of the Ministry of Defence's open data. Valdivia accounts for 20 hectares in four entries (2007–2016), among them one of 15 hectares in February 2007, the largest single entry for the department in the dataset. The rest is in Anorí (3.2 hectares, 2012 and 2015), Campamento (1.4, 2017) and Yarumal (1.2, 2014 and 2017).[1]
