Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seizes 6.078 kg of Nepal-origin charas from two women at Gorakhpur station

Hindustan Times reported that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted two women passengers on the Jan Nayak Express at Gorakhpur railway station, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of 20 September 2026 and recovered 12 packets holding 6.078 kilograms of charas concealed in knee caps worn under their sarees. The agency put the value at about 6.07 crore rupees in the illicit market and said the material tested positive for charas on a field-testing kit. According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence the recovered contraband was of Nepalese origin, and the agency described charas extracted from live cannabis plants grown in the Himalayan foothills as distinct from hashish prepared from dried leaves. The train was running from Bihar to Ludhiana, which the report gives as the route rather than as a source of the drug.
