Border Management Authority and police seize about 991.5 kg of suspected dagga at Baobab Toll Plaza

The South African Government News Agency reported that Border Management Authority and South African Police Service officials stopped a vehicle travelling towards the Beitbridge port of entry at the Baobab Toll Plaza in Limpopo, about 51 kilometres from the border, on 18 September 2026, after its two occupants said they had no key to the padlock securing the canopy. The vehicle was escorted to the port, where officials opened the canopy and found 33 bags holding about 991.5 kilograms of suspected dagga, given an estimated street value of about 1.5 million rand. The two men, who identified themselves as Tanzanian nationals, were arrested and handed to police, and Central News reported that a case was opened at Musina police station. The substance is still to be confirmed by laboratory analysis, and no official statement identifies an origin or destination for the consignment.
