Sepahijala police destroy 14 cannabis nursery beds holding about 140,000 saplings

Tripura Star News reported that Sepahijala district police, operating jointly with the 81st Battalion of the Border Security Force, the 11th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles and Forest Department officials, conducted a destruction drive against illicit cannabis cultivation on 13 September 2026 between 8.20 am and 11.30 am under Sonamura police station. The outlet reported that 14 nursery beds holding approximately 140,000 cannabis saplings were found during searches at Mainamura, Anandapur, Ghatighar and Baga Lunga, and that the saplings were uprooted and destroyed on the spot. Police put the destination market value of the destroyed crop at about 28 lakh rupees. The operation was led by Inspector Tapas Das, officer in charge of Sonamura police station, who told reporters that such operations would continue.
