Police seize more than 11,000 cannabis plants from five fields at Varla in Barwani

Free Press Journal reported that twelve police teams drawn from Barwani, Khargone and Khandwa districts, numbering more than 400 personnel, searched nineteen villages in the forested Varla police station area of Sendhwa subdivision on 12 September 2026 under an operation named Green Strike. Drones were used to identify suspected plots before teams reached them on foot. Police said cannabis was found growing in five fields at Dokliyapani, Dhavliyagir, Bagdari, Takiyapani and Aadnadi and that more than 11,000 plants were seized on the spot, with a preliminary weight given as more than 23 quintals of standing crop and a valuation by police of more than one crore rupees. Five cases were registered under sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against unidentified cultivators. Police said the fields lie on forest land and that leaseholder details had been sought from the Forest Department, and no arrests were made at the time of reporting.
