Odisha STF sets out a four-part strategy against cannabis cultivation in six districts
Pragativadi reported on 9 September 2026 that the Inspector General of Police in charge of the Odisha Special Task Force, Himanshu Lal, chaired a video conference with senior officers to review anti-narcotics operations under the state's Nasha Mukt Odisha campaign, focused on six districts identified as cannabis cultivation hotspots. According to the report those districts are Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Boudh. The report describes a four-part approach comprising enforcement and legal action including financial investigation, property freezing and use of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act; community awareness campaigns; drone, satellite and ground surveillance of forest areas; and interdepartmental work on alternative livelihoods. District superintendents of police were given targets and timelines with monthly reviews, and the report gives no figures for area, cases or arrests.
