ADSU officers find 32 cannabis plants and 7.8 kg of cannabis at Anse-Quitor in Rodrigues
Le Mauricien reported that officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit raided a house at Anse-Quitor in Rodrigues on 9 September 2026 and found 32 growing cannabis plants of between 20 and 55 centimetres alongside 7.8 kilogrammes of cannabis material, 484 resealable bags, six subscriber identity module cards and growing equipment including a thermometer, an extractor, a water pump, lamps and fans. L'Express reported that the plants were found in a purpose built underground space reached through a trapdoor. The occupant, a fisherman of 40, and a second man of 28 who was present were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, drug equipment and firearms offences and money laundering, and both were remanded. An air rifle, a homemade firearm device and 11,000 rupees were also seized. The characterisation of the site as a packaging operation is the account of the police rather than an observed activity.
