Police seize 235 kg of ganja from two cars at Thaneerpanthal in Perambalur

The Hindu reported that Perambalur police seized 235 kg of ganja from two cars near Thaneerpanthal on the Chennai to Tiruchirappalli national highway on the night of Monday 7 September 2026 and arrested three men, while three others fled the scene. According to the report the vehicles were intercepted on a tip-off, and the police also seized the two cars and three mobile telephones, registering a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Deccan Chronicle, reporting the same seizure, says the ganja was carried in seven suitcases, values it at 1.17 crore rupees on the international market and states that preliminary police enquiries indicated it was to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by way of Rameswaram. The Sri Lankan destination appears in the Deccan Chronicle account only and is attributed there to the police.
