Police recover 279.38 kg of dagga after a kombi crashes at a checkpoint on the Harare to Masvingo highway
New Zimbabwe reported that officers of the Zimbabwe Republic Police conducting stop and search operations at the 188 km peg on the Harare to Masvingo highway recovered 279.38 kg of dagga at about 3.40 am on 4 September 2026. According to the police the driver of a Nissan NV350 commuter omnibus travelling towards Chivhu swerved off the road and struck a parked vehicle while trying to avoid the checkpoint, and the driver and one other man abandoned the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes. A search of the vehicle found 17 bags of dagga concealed inside, and the police said the street value had not yet been determined. The national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said a manhunt for the two men was under way.
