Chamba district reviews narcotics enforcement and reports 17.516 kg of charas seized in 2026

The Newz Radar reported that the deputy commissioner of Chamba district, Mukesh Repswal, chaired a district level Narco Coordination Committee meeting on 31 August 2026 and directed that stringent legal action be taken against people involved in drug trafficking and sale, together with proceedings against property acquired through those activities. According to the report police figures presented for 2026 up to 30 August recorded 62 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 17.516 kg of charas seized with 30 arrests, 548.8 g of heroin seized with 57 arrests and 2.169 kg of poppy husk seized with one arrest, alongside seizures of gold, silver and cash. The deputy commissioner also directed compliance with the tobacco control legislation and approved the installation of digital screens carrying anti-drug messages at Banikhet and Dalhousie. The meeting was attended by the superintendent of police and officers of the revenue, excise, health, welfare and education departments.
