Customs seize 2.481 kg of hydroponic cannabis from two Bangkok arrivals at Mumbai airport

The Free Press Journal reported that Mumbai Airport Customs officers intercepted two women after they had crossed immigration at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday 29 August 2026, having travelled together from Bangkok, and arrested them the following day. According to Customs sources a trolley bag being carried by one of the pair had been checked in and tagged in the name of the other, a senior citizen resident in Uttar Pradesh, and an examination found two vacuum-sealed transparent packets concealed in its inner compartments holding 2,481 g of hydroponic weed. The report states that the woman in whose name the bag was tagged told the panchanama proceedings she was unaware of its contents and had checked the bag in at the request of her fellow passenger, who is her daughter's friend, and that the second woman said the bag had been handed to her in Bangkok together with packets of chocolates. A Customs officer is quoted saying the investigation is at a preliminary stage and that other people not yet identified may be involved. The two had flown from Mumbai to Bangkok on 26 August.
