Police eradicate 5,968 cannabis plants in Operation Green Bay in St John
Barbados Today reported that officers of the Barbados Police Service Special Operations Management Division carried out Operation Green Bay in the early morning of Saturday 29 August 2026, working through brush and farmland at Welch, Cliff Cottage, Bath Land and Colleton in the parish of St John. According to the report 5,968 cannabis plants were uprooted and eradicated, ranging from small seedlings to mature plants standing up to eight feet high, and the crop weighed 356.79 kg with an estimated street value of more than 1.4 million dollars. No suspects were held during the sweep and police said investigations were continuing in order to identify those behind the cultivation. Residents quoted by the outlet described officers arriving from about five in the morning and searching the terrain with drones until after midday, and police asked anyone with information about the ownership of the crop to come forward.
