Odisha revenue department orders monitoring of government land in six districts against cannabis replanting

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the Government of Odisha wrote to the district collectors of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh and Gajapati on 10 August 2026, directing continuous monitoring of government revenue land cleared of illegal cannabis cultivation in the previous season. Additional Chief Secretary Arabinda Kumar Padhee instructed that revenue officials maintain village and plot wise records of the affected land against coordinates supplied by the police, and report any re-detection at once to the local police station, the Special Task Force or the Anti-Narcotics Task Force under section 47 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. The letter directs collectors to set up a district level internal reporting mechanism and warns of action against revenue officials found assisting those involved in illegal cultivation. OrissaPost reported that police destroyed cultivation across 36,508.792 acres in 1,631 mapped plots under 41 police station jurisdictions in the six districts between November 2025 and March 2026, of which 6,632.197 acres were government revenue land.
