Bangkok passenger arrested at Delhi airport with nearly 9 kg of suspected hydroponic cannabis

Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport arrested a passenger arriving from Bangkok on 29 July 2026 after recovering five vacuum-sealed packets of a green-coloured substance suspected to be hydroponic cannabis, with a net weight of 8,961 grams. The passenger was intercepted after crossing the customs green channel on the basis of profiling through the Advance Passenger Information System; X-ray screening of the baggage showed suspicious images that prompted a detailed examination. The report described the material, which it termed hydroponic weed, as a high-potency form of cannabis cultivated in nutrient-rich water rather than soil. The passenger was arrested under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985, with the contraband seized under Section 43(a) and an investigation opened into the source and intended destination of the consignment.
