BNN seizes 3.37 tonnes of Thai cannabis buds bound for vape production in Gresik, East Java

The National Narcotics Agency announced on 2 July 2026 the seizure of about 3.37 tonnes of cannabis buds from an industrial warehouse in Gresik regency, East Java, in operations running from 29 June to 1 July. BNN head Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto said the consignment originated in Thailand and was declared as imported goods, with a recorded brute weight of 3,371,400 grams held in roughly 500 suitcases and 80 cardboard bales. BNN said the buds were intended for extraction into tetrahydrocannabinol as a base for electronic cigarette refill liquid, with distribution planned for cities including Jakarta and Bali. Twelve people were detained, among them transporters, company administrators, a truck driver, a port official and a Chinese national said to run the warehouse. BNN named a Malaysian national and a Chinese national outside Indonesian jurisdiction as controlling the network. The operation was conducted with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the East Java regional police.
