Polda Papua reports 12 PNG nationals among 151 narcotics suspects in six months

KabarPapua reported that the director of the narcotics directorate of the Papua regional police, Senior Commissioner Alfian, told a press conference on 27 June 2026 that officers had handled 151 suspects between January and June 2026, of whom twelve were Papua New Guinea nationals described as cannabis couriers. The directorate reported seizing 38 kilogrammes of cannabis across 71 cases over the period, alongside 1,034 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and 21,530 litres of illicit alcohol. It also reported destroying 169 cannabis plants in Pegunungan Bintang. Alfian said trafficking moved along informal footpaths around the Holtekamp crossing on the border with Papua New Guinea and described Jayapura as a base for cross-border crime.
