Jalpaiguri Kotwali police seize 130 kg of ganja from a tea consignment truck at Balapara

Sangbad Pratidin reported that Jalpaiguri Kotwali police acted on a tip-off and stopped a truck carrying tea leaves at Balapara on national highway 27D at night. The report said the truck was travelling from Assam towards Bihar and that officers found a concealed chamber under the driver's seat holding 130 kg of ganja, which police valued at several lakh rupees. The truck also carried 485 bags of tea weighing 35 kg each, which the report describes as cover for the consignment. The driver was arrested and named in the report, along with a minor travelling as his helper. Investigators told the paper they were questioning the driver about where in Assam the ganja was loaded and where in Bihar it was bound.
