Asansol NDPS court sentences six to twelve years over a 353 kg ganja consignment

Uttarbanga Sambad reported that six people convicted at the Asansol court over the trafficking of more than three and a half quintals of ganja two years earlier were sentenced by the NDPS court judge. The report said each was given 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees, with a further nine months in default. It named them as five residents of Nadia and one of Nadanghat in Purba Bardhaman. According to the report the six had been caught by the state police Special Task Force on 17 May 2022 while travelling towards Durgapur with 353 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh, and were arrested from the Prabhat Pally area of Benachity police station in Durgapur. The public prosecutor said the case had run for two years and that twelve witnesses gave evidence.
