Cooch Behar police report 2,746 bighas of cannabis destroyed since the start of 2024

Uttarbanga Sambad reported that police sources claimed the Cooch Behar district police had destroyed cannabis across 2,746 bighas of land in the current year to the date of the report. Separately, the report said the superintendent of police issued a press release on Wednesday giving the monthly breakdown as 2,605 bighas destroyed in January and 141 bighas in the current month. The report added that poppy fields across 230 bighas in January and 345 bighas in the current month were destroyed, a total of 575 bighas, an arithmetic the paper set out in its own text. The release was issued on 21 February, so the period covered runs from the start of the year to that date rather than a full two months.
