Operation Yukthiya: Over 2,100 arrests in 24 hours
Sri Lankan authorities launched Operation Yukthiya ('Justice'), a nationwide anti-drug and anti-underworld crackdown coordinated between Sri Lanka Police, the Narcotics Bureau, Special Bureau, Armed Forces, and the Police Special Task Force. In its first 24 hours, 2,121 individuals were arrested (2,020 men, 101 women), 12 detained under detention orders, and 133 referred for rehabilitation. Cannabis was the dominant drug seized at 178 kg. Western Province accounted for the highest concentration of arrests. The operation deployed 200 army personnel, 200 police officers, and 50 STF members.
