PDEA and police destroy ₱2.12M marijuana plantation at Sitio Nakawa, San Gabriel, La Union

Joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 1 and the La Union Police Provincial Office destroyed a cannabis plantation at Sitio Nakawa, Barangay Lon-oy, San Gabriel, La Union on the morning of 7 November 2023. The plantation covered approximately 1,950 square metres. Officers uprooted and burned on site 10,500 seedlings and 8,500 fully grown plants, for a combined total of 19,000 plants with a reported value of ₱2.12 million. PDEA Ilocos Regional Director Joel Plaza confirmed the destruction; regional information officer Maripe De Guzman said in a 9 November interview that no arrests were made, with a suspect identified but still undergoing verification. The cultivator would face charges under Section 16, Article II of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
