Police arrest 34 and find 2.83 lakh cannabis plants on forest land in the Manikaran valley

The Tribune reported on 13 October 2023 that police arrested 34 people in the Manikaran valley on the night of 10–11 October and seized 5.71 kg of cannabis, 110.57 kg of hemp seeds and ₹91,000 in cash. Three teams led by Central Range Deputy Inspector General Madhusudan registered six cases under the NDPS Act, with 20 arrests in the Gahar area and 14 at Rajag Thach near Grahan village. Police reportedly found 2.83 lakh cannabis plants grown illegally on 235 bighas of forest land, including more than two lakh plants on 150 bighas at Rajag Thach. The Forest Department was asked to destroy the plants.
