Manipur government tells assembly it is considering legalising cannabis cultivation for medicinal and industrial use
On 21 February 2020 Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told the state Legislative Assembly that the government was considering legalising the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes, and that it would not take a decision in haste but would examine the merits and drawbacks first. He was responding to a question from Congress MLA Khumukcham Joykishan, and said the state was studying relevant reports from other states. Biren Singh had first raised the proposal at a press conference in Imphal in September 2019. Reported by Northeast Now on 21 February 2020.
