Madhya Pradesh government announces intention to legalise cannabis cultivation for medical and industrial use

On 20 November 2019 the Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Kamal Nath, announced that it would legalise the cultivation of cannabis in the state for medical and industrial purposes. Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, Law Minister PC Sharma said the crop would be grown for uses such as cancer medicines, clothing and bioplastics, would not be available for consumption or trade, and that the project would require technical support from other countries.
