Chitral (Brep) General Population 2019 is a seed accession of a cannabis landrace from Chitral, Pakistan, held by the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) as G 33699. Angus donated the seed, and the system received it on 22 August 2023.[1] The donor's note says Sascha Eckstein collected it in the summer of 2019 at the village of Brep, in Mastuj Tehsil, Chitral District, and that the seed is thought to be from the harvest of 2018.[1]

Collection Details

The note describes Chitral as a region of the Hindu Kush long known for dry-sieved charas. Before the 1970s, it says, charas was grown on a large commercial scale in Upper Chitral, above all around the Yarkhun and Laspur valleys, and eradication campaigns have since reduced cultivation to small household plots for the growers' own use. It describes broad-leafleted plants that mostly fit the Western idea of a classic Indica, some of them well over 2 m tall. The note places Brep at the entrance to the Yarkhun Valley, which it calls the source of the finest charas when Chitral was a large producer. It gives the purposes as charas, bhang and seed for food, and says the seed germinated very well when last tested.[1]
