Hangchow General Population 1909 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Hangchow (today's Hangzhou), in Zhejiang, China, on 5 March 1909 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 24853.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]

The lot

The department's printed inventory lists the lot as hemp from Hangchow, Chekiang, presented by the Rev. W. S. Sweet and received on 5 March 1909. Sweet's only note on it reads "This is the Stewart hemp grown in Kentucky."[2]
