Echo General Population 1925 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Manchuria, in northeastern China, on December 1925 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 65618.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
P. H. Dorsett, the department's agricultural explorer, sent a consignment from Manchuria received in December 1925. In the printed inventory this hemp is his number 4571, 25 October 1925, "Seeds obtained from L. B. Smearnoff, of Echo": "a large-seeded hemp with a stronger odor than the average", whose seeds the sparrows were fond of.[2]
